In 1943, the Command of the SS orders from oberführer Bekking to escort under convoy some valuables from the monastery in Russia to Germany. For getting instruction he meets with Wiligut, the Head of the "Ahnenerbe", and learns that among the treasures of the monastery there is an artefact, which has mystical powers.

The former tsarist officers, having taken refuge in the monastery, and then having become monks, are trying to prevent the stealing of the treasures and the artefact.

Brother Vladimir lost his lover Irina during the Civil War. He became a bank robber under the Soviets, and avenges both the government and the particular person - Chekist Reznik.

Chinese young boy Lee, who also likes Irina, acts together with Vladimir. One day Lee dies saving Irina, and Vladimir is forced to hide in the monastery.

Valeriy loses his beloved Iris, a healer woman, and kills his ex-fiancée Helen, guilty in the death of Iris. Almost having lost his mind, Valeriy finds salvation in the monastery and eventually becomes a monk, Brother Valeriy. Later he would be executed by the Nazis for attempted communication with the Soviet guerrillas.

Bekking’s brother comes to him right before the convoy leaving Russia and asked to take Vladek Lapitski, a Polish boy, a gifted violinist, to Germany to save him from the repression. Meanwhile the murders of the elders happen in the monastery with the aim to take hold the keys of the sacristy with the treasures.

The young monk Andrey whom everybody considers a fool is an NKVD agent codenamed "Daemon". Andrey kills Bekking and Abbot Pavel, but can’t prevent stealing of the treasures. But at least he saves the young Polish violinist.

The squad of Soviet Guerrillas is killed.

Brother Vladimir is killed trying to save the treasures and the artefact.

The cargo disappears without a trace.

After forty-four years, in the end of 1980s, Vladek Lapitski meets 
"Daemon”in Berlin...
